Child seats
Baby seats and boosters are free of charge. Swiss and French law decide which children need one, and no child under 10 sits in front.
The rules in short
- A child under 12 needs a child seat, unless already 150 cm tall.
- A child under 10 cannot sit in a front seat of the vehicle.
- Every child, however young, counts as a passenger and has their own seat. No child can travel on an adult's lap.
The two types of seat
Baby seat
For children aged 6 months to 4 years
A full seat, held in place by the vehicle's seat belt. It fits one of three ways, by the child's weight:
- 0-10 kg: rear-facing, with the seat's harness
- 9-18 kg: forward-facing, with the seat's harness
- 15-25 kg: forward-facing, with the vehicle's seat belt around the child
Booster
For children aged 4 to 12
A cushion that raises the child so the vehicle's seat belt sits across the hips and shoulder, not the stomach and neck. The child wears the vehicle's seat belt.
A baby under 6 months travels in a rear-facing baby carrier (group 0+), which the person booking provides.
How the baby seat fits
Fitted rear-facing. Forward-facing only once the child weighs more than 9 kg.
Redrawn from the label on the seat.
Booking seats
Enter the number of baby seats and boosters with the passenger details for each transfer. Include every child in the passenger count on the quote.
The seats can be changed free of charge until 12 hours before the transfer.
Bringing your own
Your own seat is welcome if it is approved to UN regulation R44 or R129 and suits the child's age, height and weight.
If the right seat is not there
The driver can refuse to carry the child and at least one accompanying adult. If the group cannot solve this straight away, it is treated as delayed under the terms and conditions. Please check the seats on the ticket match the children travelling.
What the law says
A transfer from Geneva airport runs through both countries, so Go Massif applies the stricter rule of each.
Switzerland
A child under 12 must use a child restraint approved to UN regulation R44 or R129, unless at least 150 cm tall. The rule applies to every seat with a seat belt. Swiss law does not ban children from the front seat.
Road Traffic Ordinance, art. 3a para. 4France
A child under 10 must use an approved child restraint suited to their size and weight, and cannot sit in a front seat. The law has limited exceptions, such as a rear-facing seat with the airbag switched off, which Go Massif does not use.
